The Force of Gravity — erotic, queer dimensional embroidery art. Adapted from Erick Turner's original protest illustration (a response to the surge of hostile legislation targeting trans lives in 2024 - 2025). This piece features a transfeminine figure rising upward, arms outstretched, symbolizing resilience and hope. In physics, gravity pins us to earth; in politics, “gravity” names the seriousness of engineered harm. This piece embodies defiance: a transfeminine figure, arms open, rising against both kinds of weight.
The Force of Gravity invites the viewer to contemplate both the binding weights imposed on marginalized bodies and the persistent ascent of self‑defined identity. Display it as declaration: trans lives matter! Ideal for collectors of queer art, textile art, and contemporary embroidery, order yours today.
To rearticulate the original 2D image as dimensional embroidery, Daddy J hand‑maps every stroke: selecting thread weight, plotting stitch direction and density, sequencing passes so lines gain a slight raised contour that catches light and throws fine micro‑shadows. Stitch sequencing introduces relief; line pressures thicken and taper through controlled directionality, generating subtle shadow halos that vivify contour without color. The result is an austere, black line drawing made only of cotton thread on heavyweight cotton canvas—protest rendered in sculpted thread.
Erick's Statement on the Original Work
"The Force of Gravity" was drawn in response to the wave of hostile legislation targeting the trans population. Gravity can refer to the force holding us tethered to the earth, preventing flight, as well as the seriousness of a situation. The figure depicted here rises against that force, arms outstretched to receive new hope and possibility.
